MY BACKGROUND
Susan graduated from the University of the Fraser Valley with a bachelor’s degree in social work, and subsequently earned a Master’s Degree at the University of Fredericton in Counselling Psychology.
Susan is a registered social worker (RSW), with the British Columbia College of Social Workers, as well as a Canadian Certified Counsellor (CCC) with the Canadian Counselling and Psychotherapy Association.
Susan’s has more than 8 years of experience with government and community organizations, supporting children and youth at risk that include:
- Women’s Resource Society of the Fraser Valley
- The Elizabeth Fry Society
- Ministry for Children and Families
- Aunt Leah’s Independent Life Skills Society
- Surrey School District
- Moving Forward Family Services
THERAPY APPROACH
Susan strives to support her clients with treatment plans to “achieve their goals, of regain independence, conquer challenges, including overcoming mental health and adverse personal issues”. Counselling and supporting women and children who are fleeing abuse, youth at risk to become involved in gang activity, individuals and their families, Susan formulates her person-centered therapy approach to each individual with the belief every person is the director of their own life and their own expert. With a strength-based outlook, Susan is trauma informed and anti-oppressive to ensure the relationship with her clients is trusting, and non- judgemental to secure a genuine, collaborative therapeutic alliance.
