Dr. Mike Dadson earned his Ph.D. in counselling Psychology at the University of British Columbia in 2013. In 2005, Dr. Dadson received a Masters’ Degree in Counselling Psychology from Trinity Western University. Dr. Mike Dadson strongly believes that everyone- regardless of their situation or circumstances – has the ability to manage, solve, heal, and overcome their mental health issues with the combination of professional therapy provided in an environment of empowerment, support and compassion. Dr. Mike Dadson relates:

As demonstrated in extensive research, patients do indeed experience true growth and progress when they are in an environment where understanding, responsibility collaboration and honest respect are built and maintained.

Dr. Michael Dadson’s core philosophy is built on the idea that “transformation is the aim for change. This kind of change can only happen in relationships that are grounded in unconditional positive regard, non-judgmental respect, confidential and collaborative.” Dr. Dadson concludes:

My primary aim is to co-create a relationship that has all the necessary ingredients to facilitate deep and lasting transformative change. This kind of change requires the most skill and effort from the therapist, but it is the most rewarding and liberating form of change for the client. It is within this kind of therapeutic relationship, where advanced interventions and techniques are most effective. Without establishing a therapeutically dynamic working relationship, other interventions and techniques, no matter how technical or advanced, will always fall short.

Dr. Mike Dadson’s Core Beliefs and Values

At the heart of Dr. Dadson’s core belief system lies the foundational belief that “every individual person has inherent value and deserves to be known, accepted and respected”. Regardless of various forms of diversity, sexual orientation, gender, religion, race age, status or social economic standing, Michael Dadson’s practice Gentle Currents Therapy is an environment that naturally nurtures a person’s wellbeing and self -acceptance in a place where everyone is included and provided with the life skills and tools to help them navigate and even master their current challenges in life.

These beliefs have allowed Mike Dadson’s Langley, BC counselling practice at Gentle Currents Therapy to flourish for decades, by recognizing that it is important and necessary to be available to discuss any issue affecting one’s life with openness and respect.  It is in this relationship where new intra-personal and interpersonal skills can be experientially learned.  People are made for change. They are naturally generated for growth. Injuries can heal and transformation is possible.  Central to these kinds of change is the truth that every person has worth.  When the conditions are right everyone can realize, recognize and rediscover how to generate self-worth. This truth is the context where change flourishes and advanced interventions become relevant and potent.

Dr. Dadson tailors his approach toward the individual patient- to be flexible and adapt to their personal needs, because he works hard to get to know the induvial.

Whether Dr. Dadson Is dealing with an individual client,  a couple, a family,  or a group  of clients’, he strives to ensure that everyone feels included and respected in a safe environment that is free of judgement.

Whether it’s Cognitive behavioural Therapy, Emotionally focused therapy, or process oriented therapy- Dr. Mike Dadson tailors his approach toward the individual patient- to be flexible and adapt to their personal needs. Research has demonstrated that most of the change that occurs from any form of Counselling is a direct result of the value and quality of the therapeutic relationship. “That relationship,” Dr. Dadson states, “is more important than any intervention that is used; and the ability to develop a working relationship with another person and explore what the issues are, from one individual to another.” Dadson further goes on to liken the therapeutic relationship to the creation of a cocoon; from which they can form and understand themselves from the inside. Dr. Mike Dadson makes his services accessible to everyone- offering therapy for individual  patient; a couple, a family and a variety of different kinds of group  .
